Special fun at farmers market this week

Farmers MarketAll area residents are invited to celebrate National Farmers Market Week at the Greene County farmers market this Tuesday.

The local market is held every Tuesday from 4 to 6:30 pm on the east side of the courthouse square in Jefferson.

This week, everyone at the market can register to win a gift basket of items donated by many of the market vendors and a gift card donated by GreeneCountyNewsOnline. Value of the basket is more than $50. The winner’s name will be drawn at 6:15 pm, and although he or she doesn’t need to be there to win, with all that fresh produce and baked goods in the basket, it should be claimed as soon as possible.

“We’re at the peak of the season, with our produce vendors bringing a great variety of locally-grown produce, along with our bakers and crafters,” said Chris Henning, market director. “We’re extending a special invitation to folks who haven’t been to a market yet this year, and we want to thank the ones we see every week.”

Some people like to stop after work and take fresh produce home to the family for supper. Others appreciate the ease and social time of the supper served every week by local groups. This week members of Central Christian Church will serve maidrites, salads and watermelon.
